The keynote speaker for jSciences SCIENTIFIC DAY is Dr. Girish M. Shah. Dr. Girish M. Shah is a Professeur Titulaire (Professor) at the Faculty of Medicine in the Department of Molecular Biology, Medical Biochemistry and Pathology of Laval University, and a Senior Researcher at CHU de Quebec Hospital Research Centre of Laval University (https://www.crchudequebec.ulaval.ca/recherche/chercheurs/girish-shah/). His team’s work is focused on identifying novel roles of a nuclear enzyme poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) in DNA repair that is damaged by solar UVB radiation or chemotherapeutic agents. His team’s work is focused on two models of cancers, namely solar ultraviolet radiation-induced skin cancers and neuroendocrine tumors (NET). His team has published 74 peer-reviewed papers, 5 book chapters and 140 abstracts. His work has been cited 5,255 times with an h-index of 36 (Google Scholar database, https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=V7nHrzYAAAAJ&hl=en).
He is serving as a Director of a cancer charity Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumor Society as well as the Vice-Chair of its Scientific and Medical Advisory Board. ((https://cnets.ca/). He has also served for 2 terms (2015-2018) as President of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (www.shastriinstitute.org), a bi-national organization supported by the Governments of Canada and India to advance educational collaborations between Canada and India since 1968.
